I heard this song for the first time in a Cadillac commercial. I loved the beginning riff of the song so much, I had to find out the name of the song so after so much searching on YouTube I finally figured it out. I promptly downloaded the song, and have been listening to it a lot ever since. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

"Hallelujah" - Leonard Cohen

This is the original writer and singer of the song "Hallelujah". Leonard Cohen was once banging his head against the wall in a hotel room trying to come up with the final verse for the song. He had written literally hundreds of verses that he didn't use because he wanted the perfect one. I believe the song took him years to write.

This song, however, has stood the test of time. It has been covered so many times and by so many prominent artists. It has even become singles by these artists. Jeff Buckley and Rufus Wainwright are prime examples of this. This song is truly amazing, and I think everyone should really take some time, appreciate this video, and appreciate the amazing songwriting that this song encompasses.

This is the neatest NPR special I have ever heard/seen in my life. NPR has a show called "Project Song" where they give musicians who have not previously met two days to create a song, with their only inspiration being a photograph and a word. Chris Walla is a guitarist for Death Cab for Cutie, my favorite band of all time, and a music producer as well. J. Robbins is a rock artist. Both are American.

So take a few minutes off and watch this incredible video!

The Hunt - Azam Ali

Whatsup guys? So this next post is a Muslim band called Azam Ali. I discovered them from NPR, and their music is fantastic!

For any rock and metal fans out there, a fun fact about the lead singer of Azam Ali is she has done work with Serj Tankian, the lead singer of System of A Down (in the album Enter The Chicken, a very interesting album that you should check out if you get the chance).

Time Flies - Porcupine Tree

So this is by far the coolest and most creative music video I have ever seen. First off, I think it is extremely significant that this music video never ever showed the band like most music videos do. Instantly that sets this apart from others, as this isn't video isn't a representation of a band, but rather tells a story in itself.
The music of this song doesn't follow the traditional forms of popular music today in the way it is arranged or composed, but this makes it extremely unique.
Artistic touch is seen throughout the video from the somewhat sepia-like tone of the background to the black-and-white tone given the people. This in a sense detaches the people from the background, which is mostly nature and things that last. And the people fade into the background, which correlates with the idea of the song perfectly.

NME award-winner Jamie Treays is a 23-year-old singer/songwriter hailing from Wimbledon, South London, England. He is signed to Virgin Records but released his Betty and The Selfish Sons EP on his own Pacemaker Records label in 2007. His musical style is hard to place, but incorporates elements of rap, reggae, Indie and acoustic genres. Although at the time of writing Jamie has received relatively little mainstream exposure, he has received airplay from BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe, who made “Salvador” his single of the week and “Back In The Game” his Hottest Record In The World. In January 2007 Jamie also covered Zane’s show on radio 1 whilst Zane was away, working alongside Radio 1 DJ Nihal. On Jo Whiley’s show, “Back In The Game” featured as her “pet sound” and more recently his single “Sheila” was Whiley’s Record Of The Week. Jamie also remixed Gorillaz #36 single “Kids With Guns”. This was a B-side. “Sheila” was also ‘playlisted’ by Radio 1 thus receiving more airtime across all shows. To date Jamie has released three singles: “Sheila” was released on July 3rd 2006 and got to No.22 in the U.K. singles chart, his first Top 40 hit.
